December 21, 2018 Walking, Riding and Striving for a Cure for Alzheimer’s!

Alzheimer's Walk and RideMore than four million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. As the baby boomer generation ages, more than fourteen million Americans will be affected by the year 2050.

The Atlantic Shores family is on the frontline of efforts to eliminate this devastating disease — raising funds and awareness for care, while advancing research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.

A strong supporter for Alzheimer’s research funding, our team of residents, staff, friends and family participate as one of the top area teams in the Alzheimer’s Association of South Hampton Roads’ Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We’ve also been proud to have served as an official event sponsor.

Throughout the year, a series of fundraising events are staged, including an on-campus 5K run, with proceeds also benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter.

And we’re proud to partner with other organizations in the community to take the cause “to the streets” – literally! This year we joined forces with more than 50 members of the Women in the Wind Honey Badgers Chapter motorcycle club for a fundraising motorcycle ride and parade.

Rolling across Virginia Beach, Pungo and Blackwater, The Longest Day ride ended with a bike parade through the streets of Atlantic Shores, followed by a lakeside celebration with lunch and music. Residents cheered the riders on as they completed their journey, and also donated to the ride with proceeds from a 50/50 raffle supported by our community.

Watch for updates, and come join us on our efforts in 2019!
